올해 드로잉시티는 대만 남부의 도시 '타이난'을 이주와 노동, 시적 경계, 상상된 풍경이라는 키워드로 그려본다. 세계 유수의 영화 무대에서 주목받고 있는 다큐멘터리 <공원>을 만든 소여핸이 한국의 관객들을 만난다. <공원>은 지난해 대만국제다큐영화제 3관왕, 암스테르담국제다큐영화제 우수예술공헌상을 수상했고, 올해 10월 열리는 야마가타국제다큐영화제 국제경쟁에 진출했다. 소여핸은 타이난을 기반으로 활동하는 Your Bros. Filmmakig Group의 공동 설립자이기도 하다. 이 그룹은 현실을 재해석하는 방법으로서의 영화, 미적인 사고의 매개체로서의 영화를 지향하는 영화 제작 집단이다. <공원>의 경우처럼, 소여핸과 함께 이 그룹이 제작한 3편의 다큐멘터리도 만나볼 수 있다. 포럼 [공원 감각]은 남대만영화제와 함께 준비했다. 예술감독 황조가 객원으로 큐레이팅한 작품과 함께 부산을 찾아, 공원이라는 장소의 생생함과 공백 사이에서 진동하는 감각에 대한 생각을 나눌 예정이다. 빌렘 플루서는 『몸짓들』에서 만들기의 몸짓을 다루며, 대칭을 이루는 우리 두 손을 포개어 일치시키려면, 한쪽 손을 불가능의 차원으로 회전시켜야만 하기에, 두 손은 영원히 일치되지 않은 채 서로를 비춰볼 수밖에 없는 존재라고 썼다. 생생함과 공백이라는 일치될 수 없는 감각이 '타이난'의 곳곳에서 무엇을 비추어내는지 경험할 수 있는 흥미로운 시간으로 올해 영화제가 관객들에게 닿길 바란다.

This year's Drawing City turns its gaze toward Tainan, a city in southern Taiwan, through the themes of migration and labor, poetic boundaries, and imagined landscapes. Director So Yo-hen, whose documentary Park has garnered international acclaim, will meet Korean audiences. The film won three awards at the Taiwan International Documentary Festival and received the Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). It has also been officially selected for the international competition at this year's Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival. So is also a co-founder of Your Bros. Filmmaking Group, a collective based in Tainan that pursues cinema as a method of reinterpreting reality and as a medium for aesthetic thought. Alongside Park, three other documentaries created by So and the group will also be presented. The forum Park Sensibility: vividly empty city is co-hosted with the South Taiwan Film Festival. Curated by guest curator Huang Joe, the forum will travel to Busan to open a conversation on the sensations that vibrate between the vivid presence and the absences found in parks. In Gestures, philosopher Vilém Flusser wrote that to align our two hands — mirror images of each other — one must rotate one into the realm of the impossible. The hands, therefore, can never fully match, and can only reflect one another. Likewise, the irreconcilable sensations of vividness and emptiness may serve as mirrors across the city of Tainan — and we hope this year's program offers audiences a moment to reflect on what such tensions might reveal.

남대만영화제는 올해로 25주년을 맞이했다. 국립 타이난 예술대학에서 시작하여, 후에 남대만영상학회를 설립하고 타이난을 거점으로 삼아, 영화예술과 창작자의 관찰, 그리고 관객 간의 순환적 피드백을 통해 중화권-대만 사회에 대한 '담론'을 형성해왔다.
남대만영화제에게 '남대만'은 단순히 지리상의 남쪽을 의미하는 것이 아니라, 주류 밖의, 독립적이고 비판적 사고를 가진 전위적 정신을 뜻한다. 이러한 정신을 기준으로 프로그램의 기획에 참여하게 되어 영광으로 생각한다. 네 편의 단편영화를 통해 부산 인터시티 영화제 관객 여러분께 대만 현대사회의 풍경과 정신적 양상의 단면을 보이고 싶다.

Now in its 25th year, the South Taiwan Film Festival traces its origins to the Tainan National University of the Arts and later the founding of the South Taiwan Film Organization, with Tainan as its base. Through the circulation of film art, the visions of filmmakers, and the responses of audiences, it has shaped a discourse on Taiwanese—and broader Chinese-speaking—society.
For STFF, "South" is more than a geographical marker; it embodies an avant-garde spirit that is independent, critical, and outside the mainstream. Guided by these principles, we are honored to join this curatorial program with four selected short films, aiming to present the Busan Inter-city FF audience with a vivid cross-section of Taiwan's contemporary social landscape and spiritual outlook.
